Provides:

 

 1) Tailored one-to-one tuition in English/Literacy, Verbal Reasoning and Computer Skills
 


 		 All ages, levels and abilities, including specialist tuition for dyslexia and other learning difficulties, ESOL (English for speakers of other languages) and Adult Basic Literacy.



 

Preparation in English and Reasoning for grammar school entrance examinations, including Manchester Grammar, Withington Girls', Manchester High, Stockport Grammar, Cheadle Hulme and Trafford grammar schools. Exceptionally high pass rate. Maths tuition also available for preparation into Year 3 of independent grammar schools.



 		 Essay writing for vocational training courses (nursing, accountancy, etc.) and various academic subjects to postgraduate level - covers planning, research strategies, grammar, punctuation, proofreading and Harvard referencing.
Tuition and support for home-schooled children.

 		 Thorough assessments conducted during initial sessions to establish individual needs. Ongoing assessment of progress conducted as standard procedure. 
Work tailored to meet individual needs with clear, achievable goals.

 		 Where applicable, lessons mapped to the National Curriculum for all key stages, ESOL and Adult Basic Literacy.

 		 Computer skills (in particular word processing and the internet) incorporated into English tuition if required.  


 		 Basic computing and ICT tuition also available separately,  including word processing, email, internet, graphics and presentation, desktop publishing, basic web design, file management, photo repair and manipulation, etc.

 

 

2) Freelance teaching

 

Delivery of Basic Literacy (Skills for Life/Functional Skills/Key Skills) and ICT classes;
Embedded literacy and language in other subjects;
One-to-one dyslexia teaching and mentoring; 
Part-time fixed teaching or temporary cover teaching;

 

 

About me

 

I am a qualified teacher trained in Primary Education, Further & Adult Education, Adult Dyslexia Diagnosis & Support and general Special Needs. In relation to English/Literacy, I have ten years' experience teaching Basic Literacy (and ICT) in Further & Adult Education and fourteen years' experience in private English tutoring, sometimes working with the same family over a number of years for several siblings. The vast majority of my students come to me from word of mouth.

Professional Body Membership

I am a  member of the Institute for Learning (MIfL) and bound by their code of Professional Practice. The Institute for Learning is the professional body for teachers in the further education and skills sector.
 

Relevant Health and Safety Certificates 

Available on request, along with my professional qualifications.

Available slots within my timetable fluctuate from week to week and are limited to two days per week during out of term times. Please telephone to enquire about current availability. 

 

Private Tuition: This takes place from the study in my home where students can focus and learn without distractions and benefit from my extensive bank of learning resources designed to meet individual needs.

 

Freelance Teaching: I will travel a maximum of eight miles radius of Didsbury for a full day’s teaching, or five miles for half days.

Private Tuition: £25 per hour for one-to-one tuition. Discounts for group tuition, differentiated to meet individual needs.

I only consider taking groups of four or more students where there are common needs that benefit from group-teaching, e.g. preparing same age and/or ability groups for a particular examination. I do not generally encourage groups of more than three students (for private tuition) because the larger the group, the less 1:1 tuition students receive, e.g. students in groups of five would only receive approximately ten minutes of 1:1 tuition per hour.

 

Freelance Class Teaching: In line with the establishment's pay policy. 

 

Free Basic Literacy Classes: I do not wish to exclude adults with a basic literacy need who are unable to afford tuition fees and access adult education. I therefore also deliver free weekly English classes on a voluntary basis at a community centre in Baguley. All basic skills and ESOL levels are welcome from Entry 1 to Level 2 as classes are differentiated to meet individual needs.
